The Aikido Mysteries is a compilation of the first three Aikido Mysteries THE AIKIDO CAPER, THE AIKIDO-KA, and AIKIDO ANEJO. All three novels are presented in their entirety and are unabridged.
In THE AIKIDO CAPER we meet Aikido Sensei Parker. His school has fallen on hard times and he needs to get a job. His old boss, Albert, hires him back as a private investigator and also as a bodyguard for the rich and famous... a bodyguard that needs no gun. He is a lethal weapon. The next thing you know bullets are flying, Hollywood stars are running amok, and mysterious lawyers are leaving slug-like trails everywhere as they slink about. Parker starts sleuthing and the wild ride is on. With Killers on the loose and Parker only a step away from certain death the re-make of the old martial arts classic ‘Above the Fray’ must go on. Someone wants to stop it and it’s up to Parker to find the evil man behind the nefarious deeds.
THE AIKIDO-KA, the second book in The Aikido Mystery Series, starts with Derek Gunner asking Parker to find John Wall, an internationally famous assassin who only operates outside the USA. Gunny is an old friend and fellow Aikido teacher and is looking for Wall because he is the long lost son of his former Army Captain, who is dying. Parker knows of the man, and knows how to get things like this done, but isn’t happy with the job. And he shouldn’t be; he barely escapes the meeting with his life. Old promises can be a mile of rough road, sometimes.
Parker figures his job is done, only to find that instead of going back home and teaching Aikido he now has to head to the Chicago suburbs and get John Wall out of trouble. He's in Jail for murder and the FBI is screaming for the locals to release him to their custody. The locals LEOs are telling the Feds to get in line and they have a judge who is backing their play. They have their reasons for not wanting to turn Wall over and lose him.
Parker has to solve a murder, save a dog, send a crazy woman into the arms of a man who loves her, sit down with a young man and explain life’s mysteries, search for clues in the hidden files of a big city newsroom, and summon up more courage than he’s ever needed to make sure that justice is done. Fast Aikido moves, a terrific randori, FBI goons, cops, assassins, and of course there’s a woman; this story is like a freight train on a steep downhill run.
Yeah, it’s a love story.
AIKIDO ANEJO is more than a mystery and many have called it the most mystical of the Aikido Mysteries. It is the story of old Willie Brown, an ancient friend of Parker’s grandfather. Someone is trying to make Willie leave his homestead and Parker isn’t having any of that. He puts together a legal team and heads for court and while there, meets a man who is simply the scariest person Parker has ever encountered. Like Quint said in the movie Jaws, “He has dead eyes, lifeless eyes… until he bites you…” and he gives Parker a blast from both of them as he stares deep into his soul. Later he asks, “Mr. Parker, have you ever looked into the eyes of a wild animal and understood immediately that it knows exactly how you taste? No? You will…”
Are these guys drug runners? Are they running money and guns? Why the big Donzi offshore power boats? What are they doing? And why are they trying to kill Parker now? The story spins on an axis of excitement and near terror as Parker tries to save old Willie’s niece who has been kidnapped. The storm of the century is nearing Florida and Parker must do whatever he can to keep Willie safe and find Siobhan before Florida is ripped off the map in a hail of wind, nature’s fury, and pure evil incarnate.
This is An Aikido Mystery at its very best.

I'm sorry, I wanted to like this book but I'm about a third of the way through and I just can't read anymore of it. It is so badly written, like a childish version of a detective novel with cardboard cutouts and chincy dialogue, events that make no sense. It's horrible. On top of it all, this is a compilation of three stories, so the author had a chance to rectify mistakes, such as spelling "Las Vegas" "Los Vegas" and many other technical failures. But even that would not have helped.
His characters are unreal, and though he most certainly is way past me as far as aikido abilities, I have trained in it but not attained anywhere near his accomplishments and rank, yet still his narration of aikido techniques is bad. I'm sorry I bought this book. I don't recall the exact author but I read a series of books by someone named (first or last, not sure) Bruno that had "it" and knew at least enough about aikido to make his action stand out but also be realistic.
I just hated this book. The characters are thin as can be, and wooden. It's a bunch of cliches and no originality and no real development. I could forgive all that but it is boring as hell.
Maybe he improved later, but I can't even get through the first story and I love to read, love detective novels, and love aikido. Should have been a match, but no dice.

THE AIKIDO MYSTERIES The First Three Novels edition by Daniel Linden Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I do like the characters and how the martial "arts" can be applied to everyday life. The only thing I could hope for is a bit more "martial action" but I won't be greedy..
I enjoyed these novels. They were entertaining examples of martial arts fiction. This is a great introduction to the aikido Parker novels with the first three novels in one collection.
only read the first three in the series, the characters progress but I'm not sure the plots do,, may or may not get back to the next one.
As a aikidoka, and a middle aged one at that, I can relate to Sensei Parker. This series is entertaining, insightful and full of action. Highly recommend.
Enjoyable character development! It is nice that the books are enjoyable as standalones of as a series. Started with the fourth book then read the fifth before I found out there were the first 3
I liked these novels but, probably the English major in me, noticed a bunch of spelling and punctuation errors. I guess I liked these enough to read more if they come up -- and would volunteer to do some editing prior to publication if that was needed. Mr. Linden does a good job of character development which is what I always appreciated in series mysteries...and I liked learning about the martial arts.
Reading the series in reverse order is contrary, but didn't matter. I think the fact that I read them all inside a ten day period is probably review enough. I did train in a martial art for ten years so I particularly enjoyed his depiction and wry insights into the martial arts scene. He has a strong 'plot sense' that keeps things humming along....and a huge ego to go with it. All good by me.
